QUESTION: TIME
FOR A NEW CHRISTIAN REFORMATION? We read
that Christianity is losing a great deal of
support. The Church itself says it is in its worst
crisis in its 2,000 year history. Why do you think
that is happening? James
Victor: As I said many times,
scientific thinking is taking over traditional
beliefs written - some of them thousands of
years ago. People to-day want evidence, want
facts, want proof. They do not want 'blind-faith'
beliefs - they do not want to believe without
evidence. The internet is allowing people around
the world to access information which was censored
by the Church for a couple of thousand years.
And these people are getting to know the truth
about theology and about the Church.
What the Church has to do to regain credibility:
1. Apologize for the Inquisition
where many millions of innocent people were
burnt at the stake by the Church. British historian
Arthur Findlay (see his first chapter in Rock
of Truth) says, the some '25 million men, women
and children' from around the world were killed
by the Church during the horrible period of
the Inquisition which lasted some 700 years.
2. If the Christian Church
does not want to disappear in the next hundred
or so years, the leaders of the Church have
to become more scientific in explaining their
beliefs. People are no longer prepared to believe
in absurdities.- e.g. the Adam and Eve myth.
People who believe in absurdities commit atrocities
- the Inquisition is a good example of that.
Remove from the Bible (which has been changed
a number of times) anything that insults our
intelligence - e.g. making God an ethnic cleanser,
a God of War, a God who hates some tribes etc..And
to remove from the Bible the too many inconsistencies
which objectively makes the Bible a document
with no credibility.
3.The Church has to be successful
in making people 'spiritual' not just 'religious'.
Attending services, using incense, reciting
prayers without feeling, singing hymns without
meaning- that's religious......... Perhaps it
is time for a new Christian reformation. That
would be a very good start.
