COMMENTARY: WHAT IS SPIRITUALISM?
The National Spiritualist Association of Churches (NSAC) founded in 1883 is one of the oldest and largest national Spiritualist church organizations in the United States. It has an excellent website that examines the contribution of Spiritualism as a science, a philosophy, and a religion.
It defines a Spiritualist as "one who believes in the communication between this and the Spirit World by means of mediumship and who endeavors to mold his or her character and conduct in accordance with the highest teachings derived from such communication".
The 7 guiding principles of Spiritualism are a sane and non-dogmatic expression of the beliefs of those who are spiritual but not religious. There is no creed and people are at liberty to interpret the principles in any way that works for them.
Many people are not aware that there is a church/ science/ philosophy that teaches that there is life after death, looks for evidence through the work of mediums, rejects the concept of eternal punishment, and encourages people to think for themselves.
Having Spiritualism formally recognised as a religion has been important in some cultures as it can offer legal and social protection for the practice of mediumship and spiritual healing from persecution by those who see it as "the work of the devil". At the Spiritualist funeral, instead of everybody dressing in black and weeping, "There it is all brightness, knowledge instead of hope, praise that the etheric body is liberated into a fuller life. Clairvoyants present see many friends on the other side who have come back, often bringing with them the one whose physical body is being buried. The knowledge of what death really is, is accepted as a matter of course, and the expectation is expressed that the departed will be back again soon through some medium to report his safe arrival on the further shore. There is no mourning, no black, as all is understood. Death is known to be but a step round a bend in the road of life, and, this being so, there are no vain repetitions from ancient documents which mean nothing." pp. 290-291.
BRILLIANT BOOKS ON HISTORIC SPIRITUALISM
Many people don't realise that Spiritualism started with physical mediumship, initially raps and taps and table tipping to form a code to answer questions. Later it progressed to materialisation and direct voice mediumship. N. Riley Heagerty has been researching historic spiritualism and mediumship for over three decades and has concentrated on the physical phenomena attending the great mediums who manifested their gifts within what he refers to as the “Century of Wonders ” between 1848 and 1948.
THE NOAH'S ARK SOCIETY Susan Farrow, former editor of Psychic News, writes: "The NAS was founded in 1990 to promote the understanding and development of physical mediumship. It flourished for over fourteen years until its eventual closure in 2004. During the fourteen years of its existence, no fewer than one hundred and thirty-nine journals were produced, covering every aspect of PM, including its history, mediums, phenomena, home development circles, public seances, and much more." SCOLE: THE AFTERLIFE EXPERIMENT The Scole Experiment (1993 to 1998) was the longest-running, most extensive, and most rigorously documented demonstration of physical mediumship ever conducted. NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN PHYSICAL MEDIUMSHIP RESEARCH Professor Eckhard Kruse has conducted experiments on Ouija board and table tipping, studied the mediumship of Kai Muegge and Gary Mannion, and devised brilliant methods to validate direct voice mediumship and much more. In this talk, he summarises the work he has done with physical mediums Kai Muegge and Gary Mannion in the period 2022-2025. Dr. Eckhard Kruse and his wife and co-researcher, Dr. Heike Bauder, have recently released a one-hour video on their work with Gary Mannion.
IMPORTANT RESEARCH ARTICLE ON PSYCHIC PHENOMENA
"American Psychologist" is the flagship journal of the American Psychological Association many of whose members have been fiercely skeptical of psychic phenomena (psi). So it is interesting that it published: "The experimental evidence for parapsychological phenomena: A review".
The article concludes: "The evidence provides cumulative support for the reality of psi, which cannot be readily explained away by the quality of the studies, fraud, selective reporting, experimental or analytical incompetence, or other frequent criticisms. The evidence for psi is comparable to that for established phenomena in psychology and other disciplines, although there is no consensual understanding of them." Read abstract."

Zoom Mediumship Demonstration
The Sydney Northern Beaches Spiritualists are organising demonstrations of mediumship free or by donation featuring excellent platform mediums giving readings via zoom to those present. It is designed to be an easy way for people to have a first experience of mediumship. Doors open 15 minutes before starting time.
