COMMENTARY: CAN SPIRITS INFLUENCE US NEGATIVELY?
I think most people reading this would agree that we can be influenced by the thoughts and feelings of the living, but what about those of the dead?

The idea that afterlife entities can influence our thinking and "win us to our harm" has been accepted in every human culture, literature, and religion. As Alan Kardec warns us, people are no different when they die and "thus, there are very superior spirits as there are very inferior ones; very good and bad; very wise and very ignorant; there are those of levity, malevolence, liars, astute, hypocrites, polished, sharp, jokers, etc.".

While our medical and legal systems may ridicule the idea of spirit influence, several modern psychiatrists, psychologists, doctors, and hypnotherapists have written books claiming that we can be negatively influenced by smothering relatives as well as by malevolent entities.
Some of the most influential are the following:
Dr. Carl Wickland: Thirty Years Among the Dead.
Dr. Edith Fiore: The Unquiet Dead.
Dr. Louise Ireland-Frey: Freeing the Captives.
Dr. William Baldwin: Spirit Releasement Therapy.
Dr. Samuel Sagan: Entity Possession.

Dr. Wilson Van Dusen, a clinical psychologist and author of The Presence of Spirits in Madness claimed that he was able to hold coherent conversations with the voices of his schizophrenic patients and that their behaviour precisely matched what Christian Mystic Emanuel Swedenborg described. Jerry Marzinsky, in his book An Amazing Journey into the Psychotic Mind (2019) comes to the same conclusion.

Given the number of reports and the fact that we are living in times of enormous emotional stress, it makes good sense that all those seeking to make spirit contact (whether it be mediumship, EVP, or automatic writing) practice "spiritual hygiene" and always use their discernment about whom to invite into their space.


A SPIRITIST PERSPECTIVE ON SPIRIT INFLUENCE Luis Sergio Marotta discusses possible influences of lower entities with Sheri Perl during a Zoom Global Gathering. He has found that Kardec's teachings on the nature of spirits and how they can affect people (Spirits Book p. 93) is in line with his experiences of healing people in Spiritist Centres and mediumship circles in Brazil.

DR. ANABELA CARDOSO ON EVP
Dr. Cardoso is one of the world's leaders in research-based EVP and ITC. In 2000 she founded the ITC Journal which has an Editorial Board of internationally recognised scientists and researchers of anomalous phenomena. In this video, she recaps the main steps to experiment with the EVP. She again confirms that there is no specific protocol for the DRV. Every single ITC operator who receives the DRV has started by the EVP experimentation. Anabela reveals that her Rio de Tempo communicators have told her that they “are endeavouring and working to establish contact with everybody in this [our] world interested in the next world”. To realize this project they need many people to try the contact.

WHO PLANS OUR LIVES? Many people want to know who decided where they would be born, their social and educational status, and who their parents would be. All very interesting questions. The consensus of afterlife research is that before we come to earth, we work with a team of friends and higher spirits to create a life-blueprint. The spiritual lessons we need to learn is what determines where and when we will be born - and everything else. I have come across those who said that they would not have chosen the parents they had. But ultimately, we are put in an environment to learn specific spiritual lessons. And we all have a guardian spirit to help us to attain our objectives laid out in the blueprint of our life on earth.



AFTER-DEATH CONTACT - SHEILA LOWE
Sheila Lowe shares a very personal account of her many contacts with her daughter Jennifer who was murdered 20 years ago. Sheila is a handwriting expert and has written several best-selling books about graphology, as well as the Claudia Rose Forensic Handwriting Mystery Series. Recently she has begun a series of books about the afterlife with the help of her daughter in spirit. The first is Proof of Life. Sheila leads a zoom group on Automatic Writing and Mediumship Discussion on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday night of the month.

CONTINUING THE HAMILTON CIRCLE INVESTIGATION OF PHYSICAL MEDIUMSHIP
One of the features of Mary Marshall's mediumship was the production of perfectly detailed miniature portraits within her ectoplasm. The same thing is sometimes produced in the Felix circle. Dr. Hamilton began as a skeptic but through his research became convinced that ectoplasm was real and that the afterlife existed. After his sudden death in 1935, his wife Lillian and son James produced a summary of their work in the book Intention and Survival, published in 1942 (see pdf copy online). Many of the photos from the book are the most frequently reproduced photos of ectoplasm on the internet today. Later Dr. Hamilton's daughter Margaret collected many boxes of papers dealing with their paranormal research and deposited these with the University of Manitoba Archives Special Collections where they remain accessible today. JONATHON BEECHER AND WHITE CROW BOOK Jon has created a wonderful company which publishes books of a spiritual nature, mostly non-fiction with a sprinkling of fiction and reissues important books that are out-of-print. The name ‘White Crow’ comes from William James who said "To upset the conclusion that all crows are black there is no need to seek demonstration that no crow is black; it is sufficient to produce one white crow; a single one is sufficient".

WHY DID IT TAKE 1600 YEARS TO COMPILE THE BIBLE? According to Arthur Findlay's book The Rock of Truth, "numerous conferences were held to decide which books (of the Bible) were inspired and which were not, and finality was reached only in the seventeenth century. Before this date, every book now forming part of the Bible was at one time or another looked on by the Christian Church as spurious and not divinely inspired. Were the Divines at Westminster inspired to decide which books were inspired, and if so, why were the priests composing the numerous previous Councils not also inspired? How is it that Christians had to wait till the 17th century before it could be decided what was true and what was not true?"

Best known as the song played while the credits rolled at the end of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the song has become a favourite to celebrate the end of a long and exhausting journey and the beginning of a transition. Peter Jackson dedicated the song to Cameron Duncan of New Zealand, a young film-maker he and his wife mentored. It was first played at his funeral.
