COMMENTARY: THE SHARED DEATH EXPERIENCE One of the reasons that every culture in human history has accepted the existence of the afterlife is because of the natural phenomena that surround death and dying. Most of our readers are familiar with near-death experiences and with deathbed visions but fewer will know about shared-death experiences.
These are profound experiences where a loved one, caregiver, or bystander shares in a dying person’s initial transition from this world. People who have SDE's understand these events as an empathic co-experiencing of the passing away of their beloved or sometimes even a stranger.
They happen spontaneously without warning and have been happening throughout history. They are well known and facilitated in indigenous societies. They have been documented by the Society for Psychical Research in London since the late 1800s. Peter Fenwick, MD, and Elizabeth Fenwick, RN, who research end-of-life phenomena, have collected hundreds of accounts in the United Kingdom and in Northern Europe.

THE HOLOGRAPHIC UNIVERSE In his book The Holographic Universe, author Michael Talbot made many references to the work of David Bohm and Karl H. Pribram, and it is quite apparent that the combined work of Bohm and Pribram is largely the cornerstone upon which Talbot built his ideas. Michael Talbot attempted to use the holographic perspective to explain paranormal activity and extrasensory perception. Talbot also ties in elements of Carl Jung's "collective unconscious" theory, as well as the synchronicity phenomenon, to suggest the existence of an underlying unified field that ties all things in the universe together.

A BRILLIANT MEDIUM AT AGE 11 SPEAKS WAY BEYOND HER YEARS Cora Richmond became a trance medium at age 11. A SON TALKS TO HIS MOTHER FROM THE
AFTERLIFE
David Browning crossed into the afterlife and, several
years later, carried on regular conversations with his
mother and father through Leslie Flint, a direct
voice medium. This is a very rare kind of mediumship,
completely different from trance mediumship. Leslie's
sessions were all held in the dark as the voices came
through an artificial voicebox made out of a substance
called ectoplasm, which is sensitive to light. The medium
and David's mother and father were the only ones in

THE MEDIUM FROM MASSACHUSETTS
Elwood Babbit (1921 – 2001) was a famous psychic, deep trance medium, and educational reformer. He showed psychic ability in early childhood and was brought up in a spiritualist community where he would assist in giving readings. Later he studied trance mediumship at Edgar Cayce's Association for Research and Enlightenment. Babbitt served in World War II as a Marine and was respected by his fellow soldiers for the psychic abilities that allowed him to lead his division safely. In the years after the war, he became sought-after for giving "life readings" in the manner of Edgar Cayce.
He claimed to have two primary guides, Dr. Fischer and Jim Cole, who helped him. Jim Cole was the "Engineer" who helped to adjust the vibrational frequencies between spirit and Elwood's body. Elwood claimed that he and Dr. Fischer took turns helping each other across lives with one being in spirit while the other was in body. In the 1970s, Babbitt co-founded the Caduceus School which allowed students the freedom to choose their curriculum. The Elwood Babbitt Papers, a collection of his lectures, correspondence, film reels, and transcripts of spiritual communications, are housed in the University of Massachusetts.
HOW WOULD YOU VALIDATE THE VOICES FROM A DEEP TRANCE MEDIUM? Charles Hapgood was a professor at Keene State in New Hampshire. He spent 15 years investigating the mediumship of Elwood Babbitt (1921 – 2001). Hapgood made recordings of at least 100 different trance entities who spoke through the medium including Jesus, Albert Einstein, Mark Twain, and the Hindu god Vishnu. He found that EEGs of the medium's brain showed a completely different pattern according to which entity was in control. He also showed that different entities responded differently to a word association test.
Hapgood co-authored three books with Babbitt. The first, "Voices of Spirit" is a scientific and historical approach to the world of mediumship. The second book "The God Within - A Testament of Vishnu" and the third book "Talks With Christ and His Teachers" are primarily transcriptions of trance lectures claimed to have been given by the Vishnu Force, Jesus Christ, and other figures.
