COMMENTARY:
HAPPY HALLOWEEN In many places this weekend, people will be dressing up in costumes, connecting with their communities, and making fun of their fears. In other parts of the world, the focus
is on joining together to remember departed loved ones. It can also be an opportunity
for people to talk about death and after-death contacts in a death-denying
society.
However you celebrate it,
our
very best wishes to all our friends throughout the
world who are celebrating Halloween this weekend.
DO GHOSTS EXIST? The
common definition of a ghost is
"an apparition of a dead person that is believed
to appear or become manifest to the living, typically
as a nebulous image". Such "apparitions"
have been reported in every culture on earth and have
been studied scientifically since 1882 when a study
was begun in England. Altogether 32,000 cases were
recorded, 17,000 in English. It was published in Volume
X of the Society
for Psychical Research Proceedings (1894). Further
studies were carried out by the American Society for
Psychical Research and by the French researcher Camille
Flammarion.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GHOST AND A SPIRIT? Paranormal investigator and former host of the program "Ghost Hunters", Grant Wilson, explains his understanding with some useful distinctions. RESIDUAL HAUNTINGS
In residual haunting
cases, people
report seeing, hearing, feeling, or even smelling the
presence of people engaged in some sort of activity.
They do not interact with the observer and go about their action in a set way, as if in a movie. See

THE MOST IMPORTANT MODERN STUDY OF APPARITIONS Scientist, Dr, Erlendur Haraldsson from Iceland, conducted a survey based on the question, “Have you ever been aware
of the presence of a deceased person?”
He then followed up 450 people who answered "yes".
The great majority (67%) said that they had visual contact.
The cause of death was known and verified by checking
official records for about 80 percent of the cases; in
30 percent of these cases, the person had died violently.
The percentage of violent deaths in the study was almost
four times higher than the percentage of death by violence
in Iceland during the relevant period. Read examples

MARION DAMPIER-JEANS ON HAUNTINGS
Learn about the many forms of ghosts and hauntings and how to clear a building. PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW THEY ARE DEAD Emanuel
Swedenborg was one of the leading scientists
of his day. He was also a very highly gifted clairvoyant
and out-of-body traveller who spent more than twenty
years investigating the afterlife. He wrote volumes
about what today would be called his experiences in
other dimensions, including very detailed descriptions

THE
OUIJA BOARD For years the Ouija board
has been sold in toyshops and game departments in the
USA and elsewhere. It has been advertised as a fun way
to get messages from the subconscious or unconscious
minds of the 'players'—a form of 'automatism'.
But many experienced mediums feel that it is far more than that.
Some great works were initially
transmitted through the ouija board, for example, the Seth Books with Jane Roberts and her husband. Dr. Alan Gauld also
had success proving that "drop-in communicators"

A MORE EFFECTIVE WAY TO RELIEVE GRIEF According to Piero Calvi-Parisetti M.D. there are at least four "non-traditional" approaches that have repeatedly shown the ability to dramatically decrease and even fully resolve grief. These approaches, developed and tested in medical and/or clinical psychology settings, have one fundamental feature in common: they are based on the assumption that the human personality survives the death of the body.
In his presentation to the Afterlife Global Gathering next Sunday he will give a brief overview of the state of research on the effectiveness of traditional methods, and describes context, origin, development, technique and results of the four methods. After his talk we will be inviting participants to share their experiences and insights about grief counselling in small groups.
